Purpose

Total income of U.S. nonprofit sector industry was $2,550,861,000,000 dollars in 2006. U.S. Gross National Products (GNP) in 2005 was $12,455,088,000,000 dollars.  The U.S. nonprofit economy sector is comprised of approximate 20 % of the total U.S. GNP economy. The nonprofit sector, tax-exempt economy is vital to our national economy.
IRS Master File data (SOI Tax Stats – Exempt Organizations) was extracted and used for this analysis. This statistical analysis of Nonprofits data might be helpful in researching and analyzing national or states Nonprofits sector data for government nonprofits planners, industry marketing researchers, financial analysts, university-sponsored researchers, economists, Nonprofits Association Executive Directors, and Nonprofit organizations.  All Nonprofits data including 51 states, Puerto Rico and International are available upon request.

Customer Feedbacks

Mr. Yoo;
Thanks for alerting me to your page. It is indeed a very useful resource.
My only comment or suggestion would be that you add two important cautions in places where visitors will see them. First, many nonprofits (most notably sectarian organizations, nonprofits with revenues of $5,000 or less, those using other exempt entities as fiscal agents, or certain types of membership associations) are not required to register with the IRS so the listing is incomplete – in fact our data for Indiana suggests that the IRS captures only about 60-65 percent of the state’s nonprofits. Second, there are known geographic biases in the IRS listing, since it is based on the address given the IRS for purposes of communicating with the exempt entity, which is not necessarily where it carries out all or even just some of its activities. It might be the address of the organization’s accountant, legal advisor, or the home or office of the board chair; for local subsidiaries of a national or regional organization, it might also be the headquarter address.

“In my personal opinion, I believe you have a very good site. You present the data in a way I have not see before, congratulations.  I might suggest having a method for your users to sign up for the newsletter, assuming you will be updating it from time to time.  That is a good way to remind folks about your site without an expensive ad campaign.  Yours truly, Jim Willis“

All data and reports in this web site is under the "Prototype" development phase. We welcome any suggestions or ideas to improve our quality of our web site.
